9th & 10th Ethics Blog

For one thing I have discovered is that I am capable of creating my own Blog. Something I previously thought would be impossible for myself. It has intereste me to see how people keep online journals of their life, and things that interest them. I have looked through blogspot to discover other people's blogs on the web (besides classmates) and see that everyone is allowed to express there personal opinion freely, which I like. I believe blogs are most effectively used for online journals or sites that need to be continually modified with post. I believe it is a useful tool for the workplace aside from what the articles about blogging at work said. It is also useful for professional issues and is very efficient in achieving a sense of community in a virtual work environment. I believe is advantagous to spread news quickly. In the same way this can be dangerous if the news is changed or false information. All and all I enjoyed using blog this year.

Defense Lead Bears to Eigth Straight Win

Three weeks after Vasher's 108-yard TD return of a missed field goal sparked the Bears to a 13-3 win over San Francisco, fellow cornerback Charles Tillman returned an interception 95 yards to fuel Sunday's 19-7 victory over the Packers. On top of that Vasher capitlized an interception by returning one for a touchdown in the begining of the 4th quarter.

Chicago bears cruise to 6th straight victory

One week after returning a missed field goal a record 108 yards, Vasher intercepted two passes, and the North-leading Bears prooved themselves to be a contender in the NFC with a 13-3 victory over the Carolina Panthers, Chicago's sixth straight win. Vasher's first pick led to a 3-yard touchdown reception, and the second resulted in a 33-yard field goal. The second year pro now has 6 interceptions. The Bears defensive line also seemed rather potent, as they sacked Jake Delhomme 8 times during Sunday's game.

Eighth Ethics Discussion

In the passage Catton tells of a beautiful spring day in early April 1865. As one women said "one of those unusually lovely days that the spring sometimes brings, when delicate silks that look too fine at other times seem just to suit." It was a very peaceful spring day indeed. Shortly after the "11 o'clock" service news arrived to President Davis, from General Lee, informing the president of Lee's latest agenda. The news was great, "Lee was going to retreat, the government was to move out tonight, the Yankees would take over in the morning." (444-445)

Chicago Bears defeat 49er's 17-9

The Bears had another great day at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois. After winning today they have now extended there win streak to 5 games in a row. Today during the end of the 2nd quarter a new NFL record was set by Chicago Bears defensive back Nathan Vasher. He returned a miss field goal 108 yards for a touchdown with time expiring in the 1st half. This marks the longest play in NFL history, which was previously 107 yards. That was the Bears first score of the game, and gave them the momentum going to half time. They came out for the second half smelling blood, and delivered the cour de graux to the 49er's.

Seventh Ethics Discussion

I believe these websites have different approaches and attitudes about the news because of different ownership. I also believe the people reporting the news express there feelings and attitudes in reporting the news which also causes difference. However, both of these news websites still abide by the code of ethics. I believe Democracy Now! has a more political approach to reporting the news. Where as Fox News has more of a consumer approach, takes into consideration the reader. I believe that these websites are trying to attract different audiences, and I believe both do a good job of doing this. Fox news has a tv show on network television aas well as online news. They have a wider audience with concerns about there own wellbeing. The audience of democrat Now is more of an online audience concerned with the politics themselves, I guess you could say a more educated audience. Audiences who have an opposing political ideology to that of the owner of the company will most likely disagree with the way the news is reported. The different reactions to these sites is ok by the ethic code, as long as its not a large deviation of reactions. That is where the dilemna occurs, the news stations must obey the ethical code while also staying loyal to sponsors. In some cases the sponsors force the news to be reported a specific way since they may have vested interest in the outcome. The sponsors and advertisers are a large part of the problem with bias news.

Sixth Ethics Discussion

I blieve giving in to the unethical local practices (paying bribes) respects the countries culture, however the fact that it is unethical should be the ultimate swaying point. It shouldn't be done! I believe the best decision for the manager is to conducat business ethically, and according to the red tape that is laid out. I believe as Americans we should avoid child labor and unpaid overtime for the same reason, it is unethical. Also, it might be part of their culture, but the same can't be said about ours. Bribery's are called bribes for a reason, because the action wouldnt be taking with the bribe being placed. The action is not being taken originally because it is unexceptable. Bribery brakes good ethics because it give the company conducting the bribes an advantage over the ethical companies. I believe America's code of ethics should be applied to every situation in which we are part of. The way these companies can stay clean is by avoiding paying bribes all together. Then they could wash their hands of guilt. As I said these unethical companies will set back the proficts of other competeing companies who are trying to run a legit business. One reccomendation is to do all work "in-house" and outsource no work. The problem with this is increased expense.

Bears defeat Saints

Today was another great day to be a Chicago Bears fan, as the bears snaked pass the saints 20-17. The Bears also now increase their lead in the division moving to 5-3. The one downside of today's victory is that starting Running Back Thomas Jones was injured during the game, reagrivating his current rib injury. The Bears have a strong week of practice and go for win six next Sunday against the 49er's.

Fifth Ethics Discussion

No, I don't think you should force anything upon anyone, and especially shouldn't insult your customer base. It violates corporate ethics by insulting the Chinese Heritage. I believe good intentions should be enough to adress issues in cross cultural communication. However, the whole dilemna could have been avoided if they had done more research. I believe mishandling of cultural differences could mean permenant loss of business. I mean, the offended consumer might be scared by the impressions of the commercial. As I said, this could have been avoided by conducting more researh, or by having a branch of the company and employees in the country itself. I would prevent this from happening by hiring a person from the country which the ad is being broadcast in, and ask for there opinion of the commercial with there background. If they are not offended then broadcast the commercial to everyone.
